Japanese culture experience : Japanese-style agriculture

Japanese vegetables are essential to great Japanese Food. There are many great tasting vegetables in Japan. This article will introduce a farming experience program to harvest such tasty Japanese vegetables and fruits.

This tour will take you to the Fuji Visitor Center, where nature and history of Mount Fuji is introduced.  If weather is nice, you will be able to see Mount Fuji from the observation deck on the second floor.  For lunch, the tour will take you to Kosuitei near the Kawaguchi lake, where crab lunch is served! There will be time to stroll along the Kawaguchi lake to fully enjoy the scenery, nature, and fresh air. After lunch is time for all-you-can-eat fruits picking.  Fruits grown in the nature are juicy and fresh.  Freshly picked fruits grown in Japanese farm are delicious.  Please note that fruits for picking changes by season.

【Harvesting and BBQ Experience in Tokyo】

This tour offers farming experience in Tokyo, and to enjoy the harvested crop on the same day.  Vegetables available in each season can be harvested, such as corn and tomato in July, and broccoli and Chinese cabbage in November.  Afterwards, you can enjoy the vegetables you have harvested either with BBQ during summer, or with hot pot in the winter.

【Full-fledged farming experience: WWOOFer】

You can help out farming by registering on WWOOF to become a WOOFer, and visit a hosting farm.  WOOFer is a supporter who provides help on house chores for the host.  You will be offered meals and a place to stay in return of your help for work or house chores of the host.   No money is required, as a WOOFer and host will spend time together like a family.  You will enjoy meals together with the host.  You will be provided a room to stay, or share a room with other WOOFers.  Sometimes there is a special building or a cabin prepared for the WOOFers, or it could even be a log house or a tent!  It will be a unique experience for you.
